There is no one right path.

Yesterday I had the honor of leading a panel discussion at QRCA 2022's annual conference in San Diego, titled "Oh the Places You Will Go."

The inspiration for this panel discussion came from my Ask Like A Pro students and their hiring experiences. I'd like to do my part in
correcting the misconception that there is "one" right pathway, education, background, degree, etc. to succeed in qualitative or UX research!

There is no one right path.

Our diversity of backgrounds are fascinating!

Together, with Grace Phang, Jenny Brandt, Wendell Foster, and Dexter Chew we highlighted and celebrated different journeys to inspire and educate new and accomplished practitioners. These panelists shared their incredibly diverse journeys and accomplishments with us. Thank you!!

ALL - Let’s help hiring research managers and recruiters understand that "one specific pathway" is not required OR an indicator of future success in our industry!

UX researchers are storytellers at heart and our adventures are riveting!

Let's learn from other people's journeys, apply their successes to our own experiences, and celebrate them for their achievements!

How boring would life be if we all had the same background, we'd already done it all, and there was nowhere new to go!!!

The attendees got inspired to become more open-minded to consider new “untraditional” candidates and futures, as well as different career pathways including entrepreneurship.

Thank you, Janet Standen and Chris Hauck for the opportunity to join this fantastic conference and contribute to the very timely theme "Reimagine Research"!
