What do you think of "robotics for good"?

This robot serves food at a casual Japanese restaurant a few blocks from our home. My daughter is in love with KETTY the robot server! She has a sincere emotional connection to KETTY and has asked me several times if I can buy her a KETTY.

I mostly think of robots in terms of improving business operations and quality control, not in a loving or emotional way. It can be hard to imagine how robots can fit into our every day personal lives and or in our homes.

KETTY costs about $5k USD. I looked it up because I was genuinely curious about the price. And that inspired me to think of her potential social value. So over several dinners with my daughter, who is nine years old, gushing over and literally greeting and hugging KETTY, we've talked about KETTY's possibilities...

Imagine how helpful a KETTY would be to someone with mobility issues or a person who seeks companionship. Imagine how helpful it would be to have a KETTY help navigate unsafe emotional conditions and physical environments. Robotics CAN provide social, emotional and safety benefits similar to emotional support and service animals.

How far away are we from this, really? And how critical a role will #UX and #UXR play in the evolution of form factors, operating systems, task based activities, voice responses, interface design, and more? A Very critical role!

We are not too far away from having more caring and loving robotic friends at home. As a result of my daughters love affair with KETTY I am way more excited for the role robotics can play in society to improve personal safety, health, and quality of life!

I'd love to keep this conversation going for my own education and with my daughter. TIA!This robot serves food at a casual Japanese restaurant a few blocks from our home.
