Insight vs. Finding

Insights and findings serve different purposes in applied research. Findings provide information, while insights reveal deeper understanding and actionable truths. This checklist will help you evaluate whether a statement qualifies as an insight.

When you can answer "YES" to most or all of the questions, you likely have an "insight". If most responses are "NO," it is probably a finding.

Findings can be just as helpful and actionable as insights! #truthbomb

Our definitions of finding and insight are available for FREE in the UX Lexicon (link is below in the comments).

Use this checklist as a guide to ensure that your insights are well-founded, actionable, and relevant to your business or project goals. Share this with your stakeholders to help reduce the confusion around our terms!

This visual checklist sis a quick reference or summary and an educational tool. Enjoy!
