Quirks Conference
I’m in London to speak at the Quirks conference about how our amazing terms project, that team lead Janet Standen fondly named “UXLex", came to be. I’ll also share a progress update and a peek at some nature related terms (guerrilla, dogfooding, sunset, sunrise, evergreen, python, bug bash, cloud, unicorn, etc.).
The goal of UXLex is to:
Reduce confusion in the UX, UXR, MRX, design, user experience, and related industries
Begin a translation and certified dictionary of terms
Establish an account of our industry's metamorphosis
People on four continents in the above communities contributed and people from 40+ countries commented about it on LinkedIn
It really struck a cord because:
We’re not speaking the same language
It takes more time and effort to collaborate
The wrong people are getting recruited
People appear to be inexperienced and unprofessional when they use the terms incorrectly
The work struck an enormous cord. Susan Fader, a NYC researcher, saw a post about it. I am here to speak (and mind the gap) because she saw my posts about it!
Meeting both Janet and Susan has an enormous highlight of this work.
Language matters
Perspective matters
Research is a team sport
Please wish me luck!
