Learn more about becoming an independent UX/UXR consultant

YOU'RE INVITED: Join us to learn more about becoming an independent UX/UXR consultant, improving your existing freelance or consulting practice, and what to consider when hiring and onboarding independent UXers. Meet and network with like-minded people in UX/UXR.

Freelance and independent UX consulting are more popular now than ever. How do the recent layoffs and upcoming recession relate to freelancing?

  • Lack of security: Many now realize that working full-time for large, well-known companies doesn't provide the job security (or benefits) they envisioned. In other words, playing it safe isn’t necessarily safer.

  • Preference for independents: Companies who recently laid off FTEs are hiring (or continue to hire) independent talent because they still need to deliver. Start-up growth has also resulted in a greater need (and preference) to hire temporary talent too. Hiring independents is a more financially attractive way to get work done because employers save $$$ when they hire contractors versus FTE and lower their risk.

  • More access: Remote work, digitalization, and globalization are at an all-time high (thanks to Covid and massive tech and cultural advancements). There are more remote collaboration tools and features than ever before, and talent-pairing platforms make finding the right match, globally, easier and faster.

  • Flexibility and convenience: Freelancing and consulting can lead to greater work-life balance (and control). Work where and when you want, with whom you choose, on topics/issues/products/services you find meaningful, on your terms. It all comes full circle.

There has never been a better time to become more knowledgeable about UX independence, improve your current freelance practice, understand considerations when hiring independents, and what successful onboarding and ongoing engagements look like. Join us to learn if this pathway may be right for you and how to set yourself up for success whether you are the freelancer or the hiring manager.

NOTE: While these discussions will be largely based on freelance and independent consulting in the US, there will be many aspects that are transferable globally.

This March 9th event will be recorded and all registrants will receive the recorded replay. The link to register on Eventbrite is below. Looking forward to seeing you there!
