Life is pretty amazing right now! I got hired by Amazon to lead UX research for the Alexa home service team for a 6 months contract, but then I received an offer for one year contract with Microsoft. I gave notice to work for Microsoft. I could explain my experience as a UX researcher working on the sponsored project with stakeholders and other researchers, and as the UX research lead for Earth Hero’s community feature MVP where I lead our team of 4 researchers. Together we created a strategic research road map for a 8 week sprint plan. (I got this gig right after I finished All-In). Curiosity Tank gave me all the tools I needed to serve design teams and lead UX research with confidence. I still watch the classes and go back to the templates on a daily bases.

My investment in the ALAP workshop series is already paid off. I have literally never written a research plan in my life. Simply having the examples provided has been so helpful…. Your course is helping me lean into asking critical questions to help refine what was already created. Just seeing how things are laid out is helping me get out of analysis paralysis/fear of a blank page. The anxiety-reduction is worth every penny and then some. I'm so glad to be part of this!

I got my first full-time UXR job part way through ALAP and I'm glad I've had the program as a resource. It really was being thrown in the deep end but being able to reference your videos and All-In's materials for my own education has been an amazing resource to ground myself when I have doubt. I'm still working through everything on the portal but I've already grown so much using the tips and knowledge I've gained in recruitment and stakeholder buy-in. There is no right or wrong answer, especially in terms of different tools. I was thinking I’d have to master every different tool and there are so many you can use as a researcher. For this project, I tried different tools, and they all work. There’s no “best” or “right” tool. It’s all about the tool you like and what’s best for you. That was a great takeaway.

I learned a lot of things I didn’t know that I didn’t know. I had been doing research projects, but now I have my first UX job, and I’m fully responsible for leading the research. I know how I can apply it and troubleshoot it because I got so much exposure. Her goal is also to make you great to work with so that you know how to prepare for your stakeholders.

I learned a lot, especially how to conduct better interviews. Before, I thought interviews weren’t difficult, that you just asked questions and got answers. But you really have to think about the questions and how to keep things moving. I learned how to interact with participants better and use my improv skills. And that’s a key skill for a UX researcher and I am more confident in that now.

There are lots of twists and turns when you actually do the work. One of the biggest learnings was the value of having a note-taking framework and more structure. Coming from an academic background, I was used to letting interviewees lead, but when you’re pressed for time and need to turn things around quickly, it’s ideal to have it all in a format where you can glean things really quickly. I learned how to do that with this project, in a smart way, and have the buckets I need to be filled.

This is the first time I’ve ever done a project like this from start to finish. I got more comfortable interacting with stakeholders, and that was really helpful. I got better at asking for things and leading discussions a bit more. I’m very used to working in a silo, or a light-free box, so being able to collaborate with others was a skill.
