Survey Screeners for the win!

How’s it going? We’ve been super busy here at Curiosity Tank. Good busy! We are:

This cohort has 10 All-In students and dozens of Observers. We have representation from Australia, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. The All-In students are working on:

  • Four generative and six evaluative sponsored research projects with actual stakeholders

  • Two of the six evaluative projects focus on expert reviews and heuristic analyses. These students will interview expert evaluators and watch them conduct their analysis on their project sponsor’s desktop and mobile websites. It's kinda meta. I’m especially excited about those two projects ;)

This weekend they launched their survey screeners and began recruiting from a mix of survey platforms. Comparing the UX of programming, testing, and using these platforms has been a terrific experience in itself. I'm also proud of these students for exploring new platforms! For example, one All-In is a current UXR at Google and always used Google Forms to screen. She is using HubUX for her study, pushing her outside of her comfort zone! Another student, an academic transitioning into UXR, is trying Alchemer for the first time. It's exciting to encourage and support them in taking chances!

A huge thanks to HubUX who is waving ALL costs for them to use their survey screening platform INCLUDING THEIR PANEL PARTICIPANTS for this cohort! HubUX has a very interesting "video audition" recording feature. It allows researchers to capture “video recordings” of respondents within their screener. This will help the students ensure the samples have a working camera and microphone and, fingers crossed, should reduce fraudulent prospects. I’m super excited to see how this plays out and if there is a significant drop-off as a result of using this feature. Thanks again to the founders of HubUX, Jamin Brazil and Eric Santos for this generous offer! Eric is also an Observer in this cohort ;)

Check out some of the All-In's survey screeners and note the variety of experiences, questions, response options, and or to see if you qualify to participate in any of their studies. Look at these on mobile and desktop as the experiences differ significantly!

And, like all survey screeners, it's IMPERATIVE you answer honestly! Our user research industry is small. KARMA IS REAL. NEVER MESS WITH ANOTHER RESEARCHER'S DATA!

  • Studies 1 and 2 seek seeks experts in conducting heuristic analyses (generative)

  • Studies 3 and 4 are focused on finding healthcare and locating facilities (evaluative)

  • Studies 5 and 6 are focused on scheduling healthcare appointments (evaluative)

  • Study 7 seeks non-researchers who use video when talking to customers, stakeholders, etc. (generative)

  • Study 9 is focused on sharing notes and video meeting snippets (generative)

  • Study 10 also focuses on sharing notes and video meeting snippets albeit with a different segment (generative)

By next week the All-Ins will finalize their recruits and session schedules, author their discussion guides, and finalize any activities that will take place within their 1:1 remote sessions. While they continue to work closely with their stakeholders, they will pilot everything (multiple times!) before they begin their moderated interviews during "Implementation Week".

The Observers are piloting the All-Ins survey screeners and will also help them pilot their discussion guides and activities. They have been incredibly active in the live workshops and our weekly Observer Check-ins. This cohort of Observers is fantastically engaged.

In addition to the above, we continue to get more and more requests for corporate team training and workshops! We’re looking forward to partnering with some great teams in the coming months!
