LinkedIn is showing a whopping 5,188 job results for the term “user research intern” in the United States. I am blown away by the amount of user research internships available all over right now.
5,188 results people!
I didn't count them (obvi!) but sheesh, I'm thrilled to see even 100! It does make me wonder, though … what portion of these internships will turn into actual full-time roles? What portion is in lieu of full-time roles? How many are paying a living wage? And, and, and … I have so many questions about this explosion!
I'm amazed at how the UXR community has spread from coast to coast! The bulk of our work is still in the country's urban tech centers like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, but we're seeing UXR jobs pop up across the country — Michigan, Alabama, Wisconsin, Ohio — and that's just on this week’s list.
Below are 36 selections from a variety of sources to help you wrap your head around who is creating these positions, and where. I also hope this list will help inspire you to apply or, better yet, work with your team to create one for your organization that pays a living wage, turns into a full-time role, and is offered in addition to a full-time role, not in lieu of one!

Session 1, on November 16, 2021, focuses on visual impairment with screen readers and magnification-assisted technologies.
Session 2, on December 7, 2021, focuses on invisible impairments such as hearing, dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and color blindness.
Session 3, on January 10, 2022, will focus on mobility issues.
