Are we becoming more empathetic to one another?
Are we becoming more empathetic to one another? In many ways, shelter in place has made people seem more human, open and real.
Increasingly, we see glimpses of each others’ lives: how calm or impatient y/our kids are, whether your kitchen is clean, your spouse in their jammies, and how many pets you have.
We see where and how each other live. That seldom happened before with work colleagues, TV personalities, well-known authors, etc.
On occasion, we hear the waver in your voice as you try to keep it together on particularly overwhelming days. And vice versa.
So I wonder, is Covid-19 and SIP allowing us to listen to others in new ways, to engage in different or more acts of service, to more easily notice other people’s benevolence, and or help us understand other people's situations more genuinely?
Is now the perfect time to take our empathy skills to an even higher level?
While in theory we may be “all in this together,” in reality we lead very different lives and the impacts are quite varied.
That said it’s now easier than ever to learn what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes.
Imagine how powerful it would be if we all set aside time now to deliberately empathize with people in different circumstances.
