How to get the most out of User Research

Here's how to get the most out of User Research and the relationship you build with your researcher. First, do not toss your product questions over to a UX Researcher, walk away, and come back later expecting a meaningful results. It does not work like this.

  • UX Research is a collaborative process

  • It takes time, effort and input to conduct the study and apply the learnings

  • Be an active participant in the process to get the most out of it. (You know a lot and you'll likely be part of the team to implement on the learnings.) This includes:

    • Contributing to the research plan, prioritizing key questions and making sure they tie to the business goals

    • Providing feedback on the recruit, schedule, guide and or other activities

    • Piloting the study

    • Reviewing the sessions (so you hear feedback first hand, provoke questions and improve understanding)

    • Participating in analysis and synthesis

    • Sharing what was learned with your team

    • Acting on the learnings!

When we conduct research we do not do it to check a box off.

We conduct research to learn how we can improve the experiences we are designing so applying the learning is critical.

Get involved. Be nice. We don't bite ;)

UXR is a team sport!
