13 truths that supersede time and age
Thirteen truths that supersede time and age. I’m traveling with my daughter and we’ve had some epic, super bonding conversations. This is a recap of one of them.
Never make fun of someone who has an accent. It likely means they speak two or more languages.
Not everything you attempt will work out as planned and that’s ok. Keep swinging and learn from each opportunity.
When in doubt, use common sense and be civil. No one likes an a**hole.
Manage your expectations. Often the reality doesn't meet expectations.
Seeing a well-known brand/employer on someone’s resume does not necessarily equate to talent. Likewise, multiple companies/jobs on someone’s resume do not necessarily equate to lacking talent, expertise, or other issues.
Sometimes the person you befriend/report to won’t know the ins and outs of your superpowers/role or how to achieve your goals by themselves.
No job, project, or money is worth staying in a toxic environment or relationship. Mental health is paramount.
Not every school, activity, or environment will be a good fit for you right now and that’s ok. Take note and move on.
Continuous learning and betterment of self is a worthy goal. There is something to learn in every situation. Identify and reflect on it.
When someone offers to help you, take them up on it. Try to appreciate their perspective.
There’s nothing wrong with asking for what you want. What you want will likely change over time though.
People, jobs, the economy, trends, politics, health, weather, feelings, etc. are dynamic complexities. Understanding what you can control or inform, and what you cannot, is key.
Being human, a good friend, sibling, parent, employee, manager, playmate and every other role in life can be hard. It’s almost always easier when you try to give more than you take. Being gracious goes a long way.
